Our story

Welcome to The Kind label. The Kind is a personal journey combined with a start-up business. The idea behind the Kind started to from when I was pregnant with our oldest daughter 5 years ago. What would it mean for me in my new role as a mom that I’m halve Ghanaian? What would I be able to pass on to her?

On my exploration journey through Ghana I collaborated with different artisans. We combined our knowledge of natural materials, their cultural craft and my vision on contemporary design. Slowly and actual business started to form, and besides our beautiful daughter, the Kind was born. With our products we try to create a dialog between the different cultures, while making natural and unique products that are here to last.

Behind the Kind

We are a lifestyle label mainly for children. No mass production; all of our products are handcrafted in Ghana, West Africa.

We make things with the ambition be good, not just to look good. The Kind makes our youngsters stand out with a purpose. Whether you’re buying the product because you love our story, because you have a connection with Africa(n crafts) or because you just love your little one to rock our unique designs; there is no wrong way of wearing The Kind.

Behind your

basket

For many generations, weaving has been a traditional skill of the people in Bolgatanga, Upper East Ghana . Basket weaving has helped bring much needed income to the villages surrounding Bolgatanga. Weaving is a traditional skill, which has been handed down from generation to generation. The baskets are made from kinkahe or elephant grass which grows in swamps and along rivers across Ghana, and is favoured by elephants, hence the name.

Our rattan products are made in an outdoor workshop close to Accra, the capital of Ghana. The stands of rattan come from the in high forest zone, in the southern part of Ghana, All our rattan products are 100% natural and handmade, without the use of electricity.

The construction process and the craft behind making rattan products have barely changed in thousands of years. All of our rattan products are designed in collaboration with Peter, who has learned the craft behind working with rattan from his father.

We made our bedding collection as green as can be. We use recycled cotton and all of products are plant dyed using flowers, seeds, roots and leaves.

This means zero harmful toxins or dyes been absorbed by the skin while baby sleeps.
